In 2004 Jack began as classroom teacher in New York City with Teach For America. After teaching his same 30 students in 5th and then 6th grade, he spent most of the next decade working in various management roles at Teach For America and Teach For All.
In 2016 he went to work exclusively on Live Oak Wilderness Camp, a social venture he founded with a team of educators from New Orleans. Live Oak is a summer camp that combines fun, friendship, and leadership development to connect a diverse community of outstanding New Orleans kids.
Live Oak started with a pilot weekend camp in 2014, and over the last four years Jack and the team have expanded their rural Mississippi summer camp to serve a diverse community of 300 high-performing kids from 70 public and private schools in New Orleans.
Live Oak also provides ongoing leadership development programs for campers and staff members throughout the year in New Orleans. Jack and his wife Jenny, a principal with KIPP Schools, have two young children who spend part of their summer at camp.
