Sydney Boys High take on the issue of Gender Equality

A group of Year 10 students at Sydney Boys High School, for their High Resolves Community Action Project, chose to raise awareness about gender inequality. They created a compelling presentation, and a short video (see below) about why we should turn things around, and have been continuing to spread their message to over 1000 of their peers, and through social media even after the official project finished. This is the "boy effect" on the "girl effect".

In early 2011, their group, “GenEq” were invited by Elizabeth Broderick, the Australian Commissioner for Sex Discrimination, to meet with the “Male Champions of Change”, who are a group of top CEOs in Australia who are committed to achieving gender equity in their organisations. A clip about this meeting is below.

A few months later, one of the students was invited, along with another High Resolves student from Hornsby Girls’ High School, to give the closing speech at an event for over 400 business leaders. This event was hosted by all twelve of the Male Champions of Change, and opened by the Governor General of Australia, and the students spoke passionately about the future of gender equality in Australia from the perspective of young people, urging the leaders in the room to commit to making a difference in their organisations.

Below is the clip they presented as part of their original presentation to schools, about how we need to “turn things around”.
